Stamford Park Homestead at Rowville – Vs2

Painting – Watercolour Only

Stamford Homestead - Watercolour painting by Evangelia Zonnios

Referring back to the original photo to check colours, tones and details etc., I recreated this scene yet again. This time I only used watercolour paints.

After getting the pencil line down, I laid a light wash as a base that I would later build upon layer by layer.

Finally, I framed this painting using a darker mounting board that helped accentuate the delicate colours portrayed in this painting.

The softness of the watercolour medium prevents an overbearing of any particular element, yet we are still able to appreciate the table and chairs in the foreground as the main focal point of this painting.

Although I have included the other tables and chairs around the scene, they are of a secondary nature and do not compete with the front of the scene.

This painting is in watercolour on Reeves medium surface watercolour paper.

I am happy with how the contrast and spacial aspects presented in the terrace area of the cafe turned out.

As you can see from the previous post and this one, the watercolour-only and the ink outline painting create a very different dynamic.

Depending on your preference, you may find one style more appealing that the other. As an artist, I am happy with both styles as they allowed me to explore creating difference atmospheres through the use of different mediums.
